I have a friend who loves to cook, and she is truly amazing, every dish that she creates amazing. The problem (and indeed, there is no problem because they know me), it is constantly used the wrong wine with a particular dish. Now I am not a "blue blood", but I believe in the biblical verse, "take a little wine for thy stomach's sake". I think this should be done in moderation, and I've a bit of a connoisseur. Here are a few of mychoices.
White Bordeaux is usually a safe bet even for the novice and if your plan is buy something inexpensive at the supermarket, white is a far better choice than red (less chance of going wrong). One of my favorites is Sainsbury’s White Bordeaux which has a touch of lemon and peach with citrus for good measure, perfect with fish or a bowl of teriyaki (my friend makes a mean teriyaki plate).
Here is one a friend suggested, and to be honest I was skeptical, but proved to be wrong ... Capeland Chardonnay, I really liked this wine from South Africa to find but some of the peachy, nutty flavor and a bit unusual, I shall certainly recommend it for a wine tasting evening and a hint of lime and fruit, making it the ideal wine before dinner.
California has long been the land of promise, and not just for movies but also for wine, this beautiful California wine country Mark "Overlook" Chardonnay, it costs a bit more, but it is really the range of tortureFigs, nuts, cinnamon and apple flavors to surprise and satisfy. I have a friend who is usually a Jack Daniels drinker, he told me that this is a wine that reminded him of whiskey is. I'm not sure whether to praise God, but it certainly makes interesting conversation.
Okay, let's take a leap of faith into the land of red wines that you open up the risks, but also great opportunities to enhance flavor and aroma. My heritage is Sicilian, and while I can not speak a word Italian(which I imagine) on the correction, if I hear of a good wine from Sicily, Nero d'Avola particular Zagara / Sangiovese, I know I am for an evening of experience and joy. This is a wine full of flavor and is suitable for many dishes, the taste is full of fruit, with hints of vanilla, flowers and cherries.
Not to be outdone, South Africa is rising again, with the opportunity Fontein Cinsaut / Merlot, the wine is light, speaks of raspberry and spice. This is definitelyfor dinner, or perhaps by an open fire in the late evening and the sun above the mountain. It is a bit creamy for my taste, but still a praise of wine.
Now think back to the time of the conquistadors and Queen Isabella of Spain. I doubt the Queen and her band of wandering warriors think Viña El Salado, but it is a wine worthy of Spain with a deep, rich colors and scents that tickle and tantalize with blackberries and tannins. It is silky soft and Wineecho verse that might be ... "... A little wine for thy stomach's sake".
Well dinner is almost ready, the candles are lit, the men gathered around people, and my boyfriend is serving her cooking, depending on my choice to round out the nice dinner. A sip, a smile, a vortex and the glasses are full of flavor and fragrance captivates the senses and bring the senses alive.
